What is an original color guide?
Our original color guides are one-of-a-kind pieces of hand-colored comic art. Joe Chiodo, a multi-disciplinary artist, helped establish the modern look of comics in the 90s with his vibrant coloring work at Wildstorm Studios, Marvel Comics, and Image Comics while working closely with Jim Lee, Jeff Scott Campbell, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri and many more industry legends.
Color guides typically start as reproduced copies of the original pencil and ink line art. Color guides often contain additional notes to the digital colorist providing an inside look into the comic book production process.

What are the specs of an original color guide?
A color guide is typically 8.5 inches by 11 inches on varying card stock. The photocopied line art reproduced on the page is about the same as a typical comic book page.
Why are original color guides sought after?
As any collector of original comic art can attest to, collecting the original original pencil/ink art of your favorite comic can be very challenging. You're not only dealing with the limited inventory in the scattered marketplace, but prices only continue to increase. Original color guides provide a savvy collector a unique opportunity to obtain a one-of-a-kind piece of art directly related to the production of a comic book. In person, these original color guides are stunning and often more vibrant than the final printed form.
Where are all of these amazing color guides coming from?
After many years of safe keeping, Joe Chiodo has decided to share them with the world. Joe Chiodo’s incredible collection is being managed by Joseph “Dozer” Mendoza, his former color assistant, colleague at WildStorm, and great friend. Their friendship dates back almost 30 years!
